David Aten joined the BEP as Associate Director (Strategic Currency Transformation (SCT), May 20, 2024, where he oversees the strategic optimization of currency redesign projects and initiatives that support BEP’s mission and strategic goals and the United States Currency Program (USCP) in alignment with Advanced Counterfeit Deterrence Committee strategic goals.
David has held several leadership roles across the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), including Treasury’s Associate Chief Human Capital Officer (CHCO) for the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) Human Resources Transformation, the Associate CHCO for Human Capital Strategic Management, Chief Learning Officer, and Acting IRS Human Capital Officer. He is Treasury’s Co-Lead for Customer Experience, where he oversees efforts to mature and embed strong customer experience practices throughout operations to build the Department’s reputation for providing consistently positive experiences. In recognition of David’s leadership of the Department’s employee health and safety efforts in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, he received the Salmon P. Chase Award in 2022.
Prior to joining Treasury in 2012, David served in a wide range of communications, technology, and organizational planning roles at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, non-profits, and the private sector. He holds a master’s degree in conflict resolution from Georgetown University and a master’s degree in human rights from University College London. David is also a graduate of the IRS Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program.
